Methods for using Viikin lures

Traditional Viikin Raksi

The traditional Viikin bait harness is a weighted lure equipped with a diving lip, suitable for trolling with crankbaits and spoons. The standard model is 11–12 cm long, and the XL model is 13–14 cm long. The XL model is suitable for pike trolling, for example.

Viikin Zander Bait

The Viikin Zander Bait is especially suited for flowing waters where the boat is allowed to drift slowly. The baitfish is pushed along the frame wire, after which the hinge hook is pressed shut. The hooks are attached to both sides of the baitfish. Vendace, bleak, smelt, and roach are suitable as baitfish. The baitfish is lowered to the bottom and then lifted about 20–30 cm.

Spinning Bait Harness

The spinning movement of the bait harness is achieved by pushing the frame wire along the spine of the baitfish, pressing the hinge hook into the fish, and tightening the line so that the fish remains slightly curved. The curvature gives the fish a spinning motion while trolling, which can be adjusted from slow to fast by changing the degree of the curve.

Rubber Fish

Tuohia rubber fish are suitable as bait for Viikin bait harnesses. The rubber fish is a practical alternative to natural bait and is also suitable for casting. Rubber fish that mimic the shape of natural fish are available in various sizes and colors.
